Gezi'de Sonbahar mı? Katedral bahçesinde utanç (Shame) heykeli mi?

Gezi'de Sonbahar mı? Katedral bahçesinde utanç (Shame) heykeli mi?

Gezi'de Sonbahar, düşüş mü çıkış mı?

--

When I saw the statue that Selami Öztürk had gotten built in Kadıköy ,which was named ''Autumn in Gezi'' and was created by Prof. Rahmi Aksungur, before his term ended as minister I thought to myself this feeling and form couldn't have come from Gezi. In so many ways Gezi changed our lives and perspectives on freedom but It didn't make me feel good that a statue that has no relation to it visiually or by form was placed at a park this rushed.

As an example to this statue I can compare it to the one in Beşiktaş. Just because something is done by someone from an university with a teaching rank unfortunately does not mean that it is esthetically solid nor well placed. Since we always find ourselves criticizing when someone else does something to a park or a place this rushed and esthetically wrong,it is not right or suited to stand aside just because the leading party in Kadıköy is CHP or the name of the statue is cause we believe in.

Firstly, if we look at the statue without knowing it's name it wouldn't give us anything but shame. Just like the shame Church would try to put on people by showing how shameful it is to be a whore in their own garden. The way the arm covers the face, it's aim and the aim of the face towards the body has nothing to do with the feeling we associate with the woman in red at Gezi. The woman in red with her brave and open stand isn't to cover up the shame she feels but to make the ones stand against her feel shameful.

It doesn't help when they try to fix the flaw of the statue's form by painting it red so it would associate with woman in red. you can't expect some coloring to fix when the form you got couldn't have been further from the true feelings. To me when you watch the whole body, the way right hand stands behind her back or how the left feet stands behind feels like a recession as if those steps were taken back out of shame.

Seeing some feeling that wasn't present at Gezi on some statue that is mad eto represent Gezi isn't just a displeasing feeling but it causes me serious irritation as well. The fallen leaves to me doesn't stand for resistance but falling. It feels like if we omit Gezi from the name the statue would've ended up standing for the end of autumn, recession, shame. This makes me think the statue at first was created for other goals and feelings and ended up being put at Kadköy and it makes me wish it coul've been attributed to something else long before Gezi.

Statue's form could've been easily found succesful on other terms but when it got adapted to politics and Gezi it takes you for a walk in the park so to speak and it gets you thinking about other municipal governments and their parks and the artifacts in them and how they on those artifacts and how they should decide on those artifacts and you end up going full circle towards the issue that the art world can't seem to solve the issue of fitting being on the same parallels .
the idea of trying to take something for yourself from a collective feeling once again shows itself to us through this statue and its placement. I do find putting more artifacts to public places to be very right but I feel like it should take special kind of an effort.I do believe Selami Öztürk really did/does tried/tries to create this enviorement but I do have to add compared to past and the thing that were done in Kadıköy for art I did not found this era to be very succesful.
All of my thought above is also for the guy that is taking over the chair and how he should manage to make parks and public places donated with artifacts that are rightfully made and placed especially with 70% local support they can add galeries, open art places and even workshops

If the support of the public really is everything then it means that 70% is the biggest force that is behind the municipal government. Maybe to some extend Kadıköy could even declare itself independent with its art and turn into an art and culture oasis.
